Game of Thrones Breaks Emmy Record (2016)

Game of Thrones Breaks Emmy Record with Best Drama Series Win

Game of Thrones reigned supreme at the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night.
The HBO epic took home the Best Drama Series prize for the second year in a row, along with trophies for both writing and directing for a drama series. By the end of the night, the show had collected three Emmy awards (in addition to the 9 it won at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend) and broke the record for most Emmy-awarded program of all time with 38 total wins. The show was just two awards short of breaking John Adams' record for most awarded program in a single year

The Emmy gold shower comes just after Game of Thrones announced that it would be pushing back its production schedule for its shortened seventh season. The later production date, and thus later premiere, will put Game of Thrones out of contention for next year's awards.
