Game of Thrones Breaks Emmy Record (2016)

Game of Thrones Breaks Emmy Record with Best Drama Series Win

Game of Thrones reigned supreme at the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night.
The HBO epic took home the Best Drama Series prize for the second year in a row, along with trophies for both writing and directing for a drama series. By the end of the night, the show had collected three Emmy awards (in addition to the 9 it won at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend) and broke the record for most Emmy-awarded program of all time with 38 total wins. The show was just two awards short of breaking John Adams' record for most awarded program in a single year

The Emmy gold shower comes just after Game of Thrones announced that it would be pushing back its production schedule for its shortened seventh season. The later production date, and thus later premiere, will put Game of Thrones out of contention for next year's awards.

Quantico's Jacob Artist joins American Horror Story

Jacob Artist joins the cast of American Horror Story

American Horror Story season 6 has truly been the most mysterious yet, with fans buzzing with speculation of what the ambiguous theme of the season will be and who will appear in the season. It has been confirmed that previous-season stars Lady Gaga, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, and Angela Bassett are returning for season 6. Some new faces will also be introduced this season, too.

There was some speculation for a while that Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr. was spotted near the American Horror Story set, which Gooding has since confirmed. Now it appears that actor Jacob Artist, the actor behind Noah “Puck” Puckerman’s little brother Jake Puckerman from the musical series Glee has confirmed his first time involvement with American Horror Story in the show’s new season.

Jacob Artist, 23, posted a photo of what appears to be the screenplay for American Horror Story, with a conveniently placed piece of paper covering up the name of this season’s theme, to his verified Instagram account. The photo’s caption simply said “Day 1.” Artist’s role in the film remains a mystery.

This is not the first time Jacob Artist has worked with American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy, as mentioned. Artist portrayed the character Jake Puckerman in Ryan Murphy’s musical comedy drama Glee, which ended its run on the FOX network in March of 2015. When Glee closed, Artist found a recurring role as Brandon Fletcher on ABC’s mystery crime-drama Quantico.

Richard Madden (G.O.T Robb Stark) will star in a new AMAZON Tv Series

Richard Madden (Robb Stark) will star in a new Amazon Tv Series

Richard Madden best known for his role as Robb Stark in Game of Thrones has signed on to the lead role for Strange New Things, a new television pilot that has been picked up by Amazon Studios.

According to TVLine, Amazon has ordered a pilot for the project, which is being considered for a 10-episode first season. Deadline announced the show, which has no relation to Netflix’s similarly titled breakout show Stranger Things, earlier this year.

The pilot will be adapted from Michel Fabder’s 2014 novel The Book of Strange New Things, which is about a devout priest named Peter, who leaves behind his wife when he is sent to a distant planet world. While acting as a missionary for the local alien population, he begins to receive letters from his wife who describes chaotic and devastating events back at home, which shakes his faith in God and his mission.

Kevin Macdonald (The Eagle, 11.22.63) will direct the pilot, which will be written by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies, Patriot’s Day). Production is expected to begin by the end of the year.

Joe Manganiello Will portray Deathstroke in the new Batman Movie

Joe Manganiello Will portray Deathstroke

in Ben Affleck's new Batman movie

Big, ambitious superhero movies have a tendency to inspire fan rumors and speculation, much of which turns out to be untrue. Every once in a while, though, there’s an exception. For this week’s top story, we have to go back to early 2015, when Warner Bros and DC Comics were casting last month’s Suicide Squad. At the time, there was talk about Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike, HBO’s True Blood) being in the running to play Slade Wilson, AKA Deathstroke the Terminator. The reasoning was that Manganiello had been in director David Ayer’s 2014 film Sabotage, so the two were going to work on Suicide Squad together as well; Manganiello obviously was not in Suicide Squad, and neither was Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. Fast forward to last week, when Ben Affleck posted a teaser video of “someone” playing Deathstroke, which was quickly confirmed to be for Affleck’s solo Batman (and possibly Justice League in 2017?). Well, there’s still no indication that Deathstroke will be in Justice League, but this week, Joe Manganiello was indeed confirmed as Batfleck’s Slade Wilson. Some sources have also described Deathstroke as being the “main villain” in the Batman solo movie, while others have claimed that “just about every major bad guy you’ve ever wanted to see” will be in the film (though it’s possible both claims could be non-exclusively true). As for the character, he’s a villain-turned-antihero originally most associated in the 1980s with New Teen Titans (the team with Cyborg, Raven, Nightwing, etc), who, like many popular comics characters, later branched out into other heroes’ adventures. And if that name “Slade Wilson” sounds familiar, it might be because Rob Liefeld created Marvel’s Deadpool (AKA Wade Wilson) as something of an “homage” to DC’s Deathstroke. There’s still no release date for Affleck’s solo movie as Batman, but it’s looking more and more like Warner Bros might be slotting it for sometime in 2018, with filming to possibly start sometime in 2017.
